 Gourmet Trading Company Opens New Washington Asparagus Packing Facility
Pasco, Washington April 5, 2006-- Fresh asparagus and berry grower, packer, shipper, Gourmet Trading Company, Los Angeles, Ca., has announced that it will open it’s new fresh asparagus packing shed in Pasco, Washington on April 21st. The 85,000 square foot facility in the heart of Pasco will pack fresh asparagus from the surrounding areas from mid April until late June. “We project good volumes for promotions from late April through all of May.” said Gourmet’s Sales Manager Brian Miller.
 Washington asparagus growers, previously packing with Seneca, have a new home at Gourmet Trading Company’s new packing facility in Pasco Washington.
The basis for this development was the well publicized closure of the Seneca asparagus processing plant leaving some of the world’s top asparagus growers with fields at their peak of production without a market. Chris Martin, President of Gourmet Trading Company said, “After many months of research by the Gourmet team, the decision was made to take a substantial volume under contract for the 2006 season.”
Chris Martin stated, “We are excited to join the industry as a packer and to participate in the industry’s transition from processed asparagus to fresh.”
